Residence Life
Apply Now!
All Southern Polytechnic State University students (or approved school through the University System of Georgia) who are enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours are eligible to live on campus. First year freshman are housed in Howell and Norton Residence Halls. This type of facility has been shown to be the ideal format for housing traditional aged first-year freshmen. Significant research has been done on college student housing, especially having to do with the impact of housing on the retention of students. What the research clearly shows is that:
- Students who live in residence halls as a general rule perform at a higher level academically than their counterparts who live off campus or at home.
- Freshmen who live in traditional residence halls are retained by the college they are enrolled in at a significantly greater rate than those who live in other types of college housing.
- The college housing that has been shown to be the least productive academically and harmful to the retention efforts of institutions as it regards new freshman are private rooms and apartments.
Upperclassman, transfers and non-traditional aged freshman are eligible to live in one of the University Apartments or Hornet Village Suites, which will open Fall 2010.
Contracts for housing are offered based upon availability and the date that the application is received. Waiting lists are established once housing has been filled. Separate waiting lists are established in each category for men and women. Current residents are given preference and an opportunity to reserve their current space during the spring semester of each academic year for the next year academic year.
Southern Polytechnic State University students are always given first priority for housing. Only when there is insufficient demand by our students will housing be offered to other schools within the University System of Georgia.
Georgia Highland students who attend the Southern Polytechnic State University campus are eligible for housing and are encouraged to apply. For more information contact housing@spsu.edu.
